BADGER STATE BATTLE: Haudenschild Bests Williamson in Wilmot Race of the Year Candidate

Haudenschild continues recent hot streak with another win ahead of a huge week in his home state

tyler carr

WILMOT, WI (July 11, 2026) - Sprint Car racing doesn’t get much better than Saturday night at Wilmot Raceway.

The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series rolled into the Wisconsin track for the O’Reilly Auto Parts presents the Larry Hillerud Memorial finale and gave the fans a night they won’t forget.

Sheldon Haudenschild and Garet Williamson lined up on the front row, and the two put on an absolute show. Williamson fired off better from the outside in the Fischer Motorsports No. 23 and took command early in search of his first World of Outlaws win. The KCP Racing/NOS Energy Drink No. 18 stalked Williamson throughout much of the race, matching his every move in traffic and waiting for the right chance to pounce.

The time came with about five laps remaining as Haudenschild pulled alongside Williamson to show him a nose. Haudenschild pulled the trigger on a slider a lap later, but Williamson countered with a crossover. It didn’t take long for Haudenschild to come back with another slide job to take the lead coming to two laps to go. Williamson responded by hammering the cushion in Turns 1 and 2 to take the spot back. Haudenschild wrestled the top spot back by ripping the top in the next set of corners. That proved to be the winning move as Williamson couldn’t find a lane to take a shot on the final lap, and Haudenschild came out on top of a thriller.

“Garet does such a great job,” said a humble Haudenschild. “Him and Chaddy (Chad Cypert), they’ve been so good all year and I think a little overlooked honestly. They’ve been right there every night. They qualify well. Garet does a great job. Man, he did such a good job that whole race, and I was kind of in the cat-bird seat. I was able to see where he was going and move around. I think I had him guessing a little bit. He slid across the track down there. When he ran the top in (Turns) 3 and 4, he was kind of just going up a little bit, and I was able to throw a slider right there and be able to protect it.”

Haudenschild and KCP continue to be the hottest team in the sport with four victories in the last seven races. They’ve also collected 10 podiums in the last 12 Features. Haudenschild’s 52nd career World of Outlaws win gives him sole possession of 18th all time, and he’s now just 20 behind his father Jac Haudenschild in the record books. Wilmot becomes the 31st different track where the Wooster, OH native has won with The Greatest Show on Dirt. All the momentum is on Haudenschild’s side as the tour heads to his home state for to major events.

Williamson held onto second after the fierce battle with Haudenschild, his ninth consecutive Series top 10 and fifth top five over that stretch.

David Gravel brought the Big Game Motorsports No. 2 home third for his third straight trip to the podium.

Spencer Bayston and Logan Schuchart completed the top five.

NIGHTLY NOTES

David Gravel clocked the Race//Ready Hottest Lap of the Night.

Brady Bacon set Simpson Quick Time in Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying.

Heat Races belonged to Spencer Bayston (NOS Energy Drink Heat One), Bill Balog (Knoxville Bound Heat Two), and Garet Williamson (WIX Filters Heat Three).

The SPA Technique #1 Redraw went to Garet Williamson.

Sheldon Haudenschild topped the Toyota Dash.

Donny Schatz won the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown.

Schatz also took home KSE Racing Products Hard Charger honors after taking the CJB Motorsports No. 15 from 19th to eighth in the main event.

Bill Balog was the Tub O’ Towels Seventh Place Finisher.

Emerson Axsom was the Five Star Bodies Rookie of the Race.

Sheldon Haudenschild laid down the ACME Trading Company Fast Lap.

The Smith Titanium Brake Systems Break of the Race went to Brady Bacon.

UP NEXT: The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars take on a huge week in Ohio at Attica Raceway Park’s Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic presented by dac Vitamins and Minerals on Tuesday, July 14 and Eldora Speedway’s $200,000-to-win Kings Royal on Friday-Saturday, July 17-18. BACK ON TOP: Kofoid Flexes Muscle with Another Wilmot Win

The winningest driver this season fends off a challenge from Cole Macedo for his ninth victory in 2026

tyler carr

WILMOT, WI (July 10, 2026) - Running second can get old fast.

It’s one spot away from victory and all that comes with it. It’s watching someone else celebrate while being left to wonder how to be one position better. It’s not a preferable place to continually wind up, especially for a driver and team accustomed to winning as often as Michael “Buddy” Kofoid and Roth Motorsports.

Entering Friday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts presented the Larry Hillerud Memorial opener at Wilmot Raceway, Kofoid had collected three consecutive runner-up finishes. He also led the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series in victories this season with eight and was hungry to put the Toyota Racing No. 83 back in Victory Lane. Consider that hunger satisfied.

The Penngrove, CA native started on the pole for Friday’s 35-lapper and nearly led the entire way. Series sophomore Cole Macedo surged to give him a fight and took the top spot for two laps, but Kofoid quickly rallied to snatch it back. Two-time and defending World of Outlaws champion David Gravel climbed to second in the closing laps, but it was too little too late as Kofoid got to the checkered flag before he had a shot to make a move.

“I don’t even know how I did it, but I blasted the backstretch wall going into (Turn) 3 and knocked the (Jacob’s) ladder out when Cole passed me and was just kind of hanging on there at the end,” Kofoid explained. “I just think keeping the restarts unpredictable definitely helps. Dylan (Buswell), Nate (Knotts), and Gage (Tyra) did a great job all day today. It’s nice to have a good day start to finish again, and I owe it all to them. This isn’t an easy place to get comfortable at, and they did just that for me. Can’t do it without them and, of course, Dennis and Teresa Roth.”

Kofoid upped his lead as the season’s winningest driver with his ninth triumph of 2026. It was also his second in a row at Wilmot, putting him alongside David Gravel (four), Carson Macedo (three), and Donny Schatz (two) as multi-time winners at the Wisconsin oval. The 24-year-old is up to 31 career victories with The Greatest Show on Dirt, making him the 24th winningest driver in Series history. Kofoid also chipped away ever so slightly into David Gravel’s championship lead, narrowing the margin between the two to 80 markers.

The reason Kofoid couldn’t cut more into the difference is Gravel charged from seventh to a runner-up result, his 18th podium of the year in the Big Game Motorsports No. 2.

Sheldon Haudenschild stole third coming to the checkered flag to collect his ninth podium in the last 11 races with the KCP Racing crew.

Cole Macedo and Logan Schuchart completed the top five.

NIGHTLY NOTES

Carson Macedo claimed his second Race//Ready Hottest Lap of the Night in 2026.

Buddy Kofoid grabbed Simpson Quick Time honors in Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying.

Heat Races belonged to Buddy Kofoid (NOS Energy Drink Heat One), David Gravel (Knoxville Bound Heat Two), Garet Williamson (WIX Filters Heat Three), and Spencer Bayston (Golf Cart Services Heat Four).

The SPA Technique #1 Redraw went to Buddy Kofoid.

Kofoid also topped the Toyota Dash.

Logan Julien won the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown.

Logan Schuchart moved from 11th to fifth to be the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger.

Spencer Bayston was the Tub O’ Towels Seventh Place Finisher.

Ashton Torgerson was the Five Star Bodies Rookie of the Race.

Buddy Kofoid clocked the ACME Trading Company Fast Lap.

The Smith Titanium Brake Systems Break of the Race went to Conner Morrell.

HAUD STAYS HOT: Sheldon Haudenschild Dominates World of Outlaws Return to Hartford

The KCP Racing No. 18 heads to Victory Lane for the third time in the last five races

tyler carr

HARTFORD, MI (July 9, 2026) - Sheldon Haudenschild picked up right where he left off before summer break.

The Wooster, OH native put the KCP Racing/NOS Energy Drink No. 18 in Victory Lane at Cedar Lake Speedway before the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series took Fourth of July weekend off.

The tour got back to business on Thursday with the first trip to Michigan in seven years with Hartford Speedway hosting the Pure Michigan Showdown, and Haudenschild ended the night in Victory Lane yet again.

Haudenschild dominated the 30-lapper. Bill Balog started on the pole, but it was Haudenschild rocketing to the top spot on the outside when the green flag flew. Lapped traffic gave Haudenschild a few frightening moments, but ultimately the hottest Sprint Car driver in the country couldn’t be stopped. He motored away to the checkered flag.

“I’m just confident from right when we unload,” Haudenschild said. “I know we’re going to be fast and qualify well. (Kyle) Ripper, Adam (Clark), and Dauson (Heitritter) have been putting the work in, and it shows on the track. We don’t give up. If you look back at Lincoln and the two Pevely races were just pretty bad races, or else I think we’d be right there in the (championship) hunt.”

Haudenschild and the KCP crew are now up to three wins in their last five races. They’ve also collected eight top two finishes in the last 11 races. The No. 18 hasn’t finished worse than seventh in 16 consecutive main events, dating back to May 15. Haudenschild’s 51st career victory with The Greatest Show on Dirt equals him with Jeff Swindell for 18th all-time. It was also his second overall Hartford score to go along with an All Star Circuit of Champions triumph in 2016.

Michael “Buddy” Kofoid brought the Roth Motorsports No. 83 home second to notch his third straight runner-up finish. That broke a tie with Carson Macedo and gave Kofoid sole possession of the second spot in points.

David Gravel finished third in the Big Game Motorsports No. 2, a Series leading 17th podium run for the two-time and defending champions.

Garet Williamson and Logan Schuchart completed the top five.

NIGHTLY NOTES

Sheldon Haudenschild laid down the Race//Ready Hottest Lap of the Night.

David Gravel clocked his 14th Simpson Quick Time of the year and set a new track record in Honest Abe Roofing Qualifying.

Heat Races belonged to David Gravel (NOS Energy Drink Heat One), Logan Schuchart (Knoxville Bound Heat Two), and Sheldon Haudenschild (WIX Filters Heat Three).

The SPA Technique #1 Redraw went to Bill Balog.

Balog also topped the Toyota Dash.

Zane DeVault won the Micro-Lite Last Chance Showdown.

Ashton Torgerson marched from 22nd to 15th to earn the KSE Racing Products Hard Charger.

Chris Windom was the Tub O’ Towels Seventh Place Finisher.

That also gave Torgerson the Five Star Bodies Rookie of the Race.

Sheldon Haudenschild set the ACME Trading Company Fast Lap.

The Smith Titanium Brake Systems Break of the Race went to Cole Macedo.

UP NEXT: The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars make their last Wisconsin stop of the year at Wilmot Raceway on July 10-11 before a huge week in Ohio at Attica Raceway Park’s Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic presented by dac Vitamins and Minerals on Tuesday, July 14 and Eldora Speedway’s Kings Royal on Friday-Saturday, July 17-18. Attica’s Brad Doty Classic, Eldora’s Kings Royal Headline Huge Ohio Week

trent glover

ATTICA, OH (July 13, 2026) - All eyes in the Sprint Car world are on Ohio.

The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series is “Buckeye State” bound for a big week.

First up is a trip to Attica Raceway Park on Tuesday, July 14, to salute one of the sport’s greats. Brad Doty was one of the most promising drivers before a 1988 injury derailed his career, but the Apple Creek, OH native remained committed to the sport he loves. He’s contributed through a variety of avenues since and continues to do so with the Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic presented by dac Vitamins and Minerals. The midweek battle will dish out $20,000 to the winner.

Then, the sport will converge on Rossburg, OH’s Eldora Speedway for the 43rd running of the Kings Royal. The weekend begins with the $25,000-to-win Knight Before on Friday, July 17, before one of the sport’s crown jewels takes center stage as a stacked field of Sprint Car drivers will battle for the crown, $200,000 in riches, and a place in the history books on Saturday, July 18 at “The Big E.”

If you’re a Sprint Car fan, “The Heart of it All” is where you need to be this week.

Let’s look at the top stories to watch this week in Ohio:

HAUD-EST TEAM IN THE SPORT

Sheldon Haudenschild is always a major story during this week in his home state, but even more eyes than usual are fixed on him this year.

He and KCP Racing are unquestionably the hottest team in Sprint Car racing as the Wooster, OH native prepares to pursue two races near the top of his bucket list. Haudenschild has won four of the last seven World of Outlaws races and has been on the podium in 10 of the last 12 with a 2.17 average finish over that dozen. The 32-year-old is arguably performing better than he ever has in his career during his first season with KCP as he and longtime crew chief Kyle Ripper made the move over the off-season.

Like most Sprint Car drivers born in Ohio, there aren’t many events Haudenschild wants more than the Brad Doty Classic and Kings Royal. His father, Jac, won “The Doty” in 2007 and wore the crown at Eldora three times. Sheldon was runner-up at the 2023 Brad Doty Classic. He’s got four top fives in the Kings Royal, including driving from eighth to second in 2020. His best chance at winning both may be this week with tons of momentum on his side.

BDC HISTORY

The Brad Doty Classic has become one of the most coveted events in the Sprint Car hotbed in Ohio through nearly four decades of history, and several former winners plan to be in attendance on Tuesday at Attica.

It’s no surprise the driver who boasts the most victories is 10-time World of Outlaws champion Donny Schatz with four. He topped a pair when the event was held at Limaland Motorsports Park (2011 and 2013) and two more after it shifted back to Attica (2016 and 2018). Schatz has also won at Attica three more times in World of Outlaws competition, making him the Series’ winningest driver there.

Kyle Larson has the opportunity to equal Schatz’s Brad Doty Classic record this week in the Silva Motorsports No. 57. All three of “Yung Money’s” triumphs in the event occurred at Attica (2020, 2022, and 2023). Larson has five wins in 13 Sprint Car outings in 2026.

David Gravel aced Attica in 2017 with CJB Motorsports and in 2024 with Big Game Motorsports, and is one of six multi-time Brad Doty Classic victors. The Watertown, CT native goes for a third on Tuesday.

The first World of Outlaws win of Spencer Bayston’s career came at the 2021 Brad Doty Classic. That was behind the wheel of the Sam McGhee Motorsports No. 11, and he’ll aim for a second in the Stenhouse Jr./Marshall Racing No. 17 this week.

Carson Macedo is the most recent to add his name to the list of winners as he and Jason Johnson Racing captured the Attica checkered flag last year. The Lemoore, CA native could join Larson as only the second driver to claim two in a row.

Greg Wilson won one for the locals back in 2004, and the Benton Ridge, OH native plans to be in action on Tuesday.

CHASING ROYALTY

Donny Schatz has the opportunity to equal one of the sport’s greatest records this weekend at Eldora.

No driver sat atop the Kings Royal throne more than “The King” himself, Steve Kinser, with seven crowns. Schatz is a six-time victor, conquering the crown jewel in 2007, 2009, 2016-2018, and 2023. He’s been close to tying Kinser already with four second-place runs, most recently driving from 20th to runner-up in 2024.

Schatz’s Eldora speed over the years shows little reason to doubt him this weekend. He’s won 19 total races at “The House that Earl Built.” Eighteen of those have come in World of Outlaws competition, which ranks behind only Steve Kinser and Sammy Swindell for third all-time. In his last 22 races at Eldora, he’s been on the podium in half of them. Schatz goes for his record-tying seventh crown and first with CJB Motorsports this week.

CAST OF KINGS

Schatz is far from the only former King that’ll be aiming to claim the crown again. Six more champions are planning to be in the Eldora pit area.

King Kerry XXXI: Kerry Madsen finally sat atop the throne in 2014 after several close calls, driving the Keneric No. 29 from the fourth row to victory. The “Madman” could become the ninth different multi-time winner this week aboard the Vermeer Motorsports No. 55. The Australian owns six total Eldora scores, and they’ve all come with the World of Outlaws.

King Brad XXXVI: Brad Sweet has a pair of Kings Royal crowns in his trophy collection (2013 and 2019). Both of those came with Kasey Kahne Racing, and he’ll go for one in the Silva Motorsports No. 94 this time around. Sweet and Paul Silva have already won four times together in 2026, split between Silva’s own car and the Kevin Kozlowski-owned ride on the West Coast.

King Tyler XXXVIII: The first-ever World of Outlaws win of Tyler Courtney’s career came in the form of the 2021 Kings Royal when he put the Clauson Marshall Racing/NOS Energy Drink No. 7BC in Victory Lane with a $175,000 score. “Sunshine” goes for a second worth $200,000 this week.

King Brent XXXIX: Brent Marks is one of three Pennsylvania-born Kings Royal champions. His came during a lucrative week in 2022 when the “Myerstown Missile” claimed both the Kings Royal and Historical Big One to become the first driver in Sprint Car racing history to bank a pair of six-figure paychecks in the same week. Marks is making the trip to Eldora for the 43rd running.

King David XLI: David Gravel matched Marks’ financial feat two years later when he bagged both the Joker’s Jackpot and Kings Royal to pocket $100,000 and $175,000 paydays. Gravel heads to Ohio atop the World of Outlaws points.

King Anthony XLII: An injury sidelined Anthony Macri earlier this year, but he hasn’t missed a beat since climbing back aboard the Macri Motorsports No. 39M. He won four times during PA Speedweek and claimed the mini-series title. Now, the Dillsburg, PA native aims to become only the second driver ever to win two consecutive Kings Royal crowns.

CONQUERING THE KINGDOM

Eldora attracts talent from all across the land, including several competitors who are looking to wear the crown for the first time and etch their name in the history books.

Logan Schuchart badly wants to add a Kings Royal crown to his trophy collection. Eldora is his favorite track, and “The Big E” has welcomed him and Shark Racing to Victory Lane on seven occasions. The highlight of those is undoubtedly 2023’s Eldora Million, which made him the richest winner in the sport’s history. But the history of the Kings Royal brings another level of prestige Schuchart hopes to reach.

Rico Abreu has won just about everything there is to win at “The Big E” except for the Kings Royal. He’s topped 14 races at the 1/2 mile, including six of his 22 career World of Outlaws checkered flags. The last two Knight Before Features belonged to the St. Helena, CA driver.

Carson Macedo is among the sport’s elite lacking a Kings Royal crown. He’s been on the podium twice (2020 and 2022) and hasn’t missed the top 10 in any of the five finales he’s made. He and Jason Johnson Racing have won three Eldora races together.

Michael “Buddy” Kofoid has never won at Eldora, but it’s tough to question his capabilities considering his 2026 performance with Roth Motorsports. They lead the World of Outlaws in wins this season with nine. Kofoid’s top result at Eldora is a pair of runner-ups, one with the All Star Circuit of Champions in 2023 and one at #LetsRaceTwo earlier this year.

Corey Day is returning to his Sprint Car roots to pursue the crown. The two-time winner with the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series this season visited Eldora Victory Lane last year with a Double Down Duels score.

Expect plenty of additional stars to come looking to sit atop the throne including Garet Williamson (Columbia, MO), Bill Balog (North Pole, AK), Cole Macedo (Lemoore, CA), Justin Peck (Monrovia, IN), Brian Brown (Higginsville, MO), Brady Bacon (Broken Arrow, OK), Giovanni Scelzi (Fresno, CA), and many more.

Busiest Stretch of World of Outlaws Season Begins with Hartford, Wilmot Visits

tyler carr

ARTFORD, MI (July 7, 2026) - It’s a good time to be a fan of the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.

After a week off to celebrate the Fourth of July, the busiest stretch of the year is about to begin and serve up 13 races in 24 days that takes the tour to eight tracks in five states and one Canadian province. Throw in the fact that the NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s follows this upcoming blitz of racing, and there’s never been a better time to have a DIRTVision subscription.

It all begins with a trio of races this week. First up is the Series’ long-awaited return to Michigan with Hartford Speedway’s Pure Michigan Showdown on Thursday, July 9. The stop will mark The Greatest Show on Dirt’s first time in the “Great Lakes State” since 2019.

Then it’s around the southern rim of Lake Michigan and up into Wisconsin for a full weekend in “America’s Dairyland”. The O’Reilly Auto Parts presents the Larry Hillerud Memorial sends the World of Outlaws to Wilmot Raceway on Friday-Saturday, July 10-11.

Let’s look at the top stories heading into the busy stretch:

MICHIGAN MAN

The latest chapters of World of Outlaws history in Michigan point to David Gravel being the man to beat on Thursday.

The last two trips to Hartford have belonged to the two-time and defending Series champion. It hasn’t mattered what car he’s been in. First was 2017 when he took the CJB Motorsports No. 5 to Victory Lane. Then came a 2019 triumph aboard the Jason Johnson Racing No. 41. He’ll look to make it three straight wins in three different cars this week as he returns in the Big Game Motorsports No. 2.

Gravel currently sits atop the standings by 86 markers during his quest for a third consecutive championship. He’s bagged seven wins and leads the Series in podiums (16), top fives (22), and top 10s (29).

ONE MORE IN WISCONSIN

The Wilmot weekend signals the last chance for Wisconsin fans to see Bill Balog on home turf this season. Two of his three podiums this seeing have come in the “Badger State,” and he’ll look to stand atop the podium for the first time in 2026 as the tour makes its final Wisconsin visit.

The numbers say Balog should be in the running for a checkered flag. He’s topped 21 Interstate Racing Association (IRA) Features at Wilmot, most recently driving from sixth to victory in 2023. The closest he’s come to beating the World of Outlaws at the 1/3 mile is a sixth-place effort last season.

Balog has 11 top 10s in 28 starts this year and sits 11th in points with Spencer Bayston 16 markers ahead in the final top 10 position.

WILMOT WINNERS

Balog won’t be the only competitor to keep an eye on at Wilmot.

Comparable to his Hartford success, David Gravel has been a force at Wilmot no matter what car he shows up in. The Watertown, CT native won there with Roth Motorsports in 2014 before topping two more (2016 and 2017) with CJB Motorsports. He made it four wins in three cars with a 2020 trip to Victory Lane in the Jason Johnson Racing No. 41. Gravel is the Series winningest driver at Wilmot through 14 visits.

Carson Macedo could tie or pass Gravel with a weekend sweep of the Larry Hillerud Memorial. He and JJR claimed a trio in a row at Wilmot from 2022 through 2024, joining Gravel as the only other driver to top three straight. The Lemoore, CA native is currently tied for the runner-up spot in points.

Donny Schatz is a two-time Wilmot winner. The 10-time World of Outlaws titlist took the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing ride to the podium’s top step in 2019 and 2024. He’s also been remarkably consistent with a 4.43 average finish in 14 tries and no results outside the top 10.

Michael “Buddy” Kofoid was the most recent to add his name to the list of Wilmot victors. He started first and finished there a year ago. Kofoid and the Roth Motorsports crew are tied with Macedo and JJR for second in the standings and looking to erase Gravel’s 86-point advantage.

CONTINUING THE CLIMB

When the World of Outlaws was last in action, Sheldon Haudenschild reached 50 career victories, but the all-time win list isn’t the only climb he aims to continue as the season resumes this week.

As recently as early June, Haudenschild was 194 points behind championship leader David Gravel. But a recent stretch of unmatched consistency has moved the KCP Racing/NOS Energy Drink No. 18 to fourth in points and slashed that gap down to 130. Haudenschild hasn’t finished worse than seventh in the last 14 Series events. He’s won three times and been in the top two in eight of those races. If this kind of speed continues, Haudenschild could be in the running for his first championship by the time the tour rolls into The Dirt Track at Charlotte for World of Outlaws World Finals (Nov. 4-7).

Looking ahead to this weekend, Haudenschild is a former Hartford winner with the All Star Circuit of Champions (2016). His three World of Outlaws tries there have yielded a pair of top 10s. He’s yet to win at Wilmot but never been outside the top 10 in 14 tries and landed on the podium four times.

WHAT BREAK?

While many World of Outlaws drivers opted to relax during the week off, a few decided to keep doing what they know best – race Sprint Cars.

Logan Schuchart was the busiest of the bunch. The Hanover, PA native returned home for a trio of PA Speedweek races. He wheeled the Shark Racing No. 1S from 13th to fourth at Lincoln Speedway, 21st to 14th at Hagerstown Speedway, and sixth to third at Williams Grove Speedway. Now, he’s ready to get back to business with The Greatest Show on Dirt, where he currently sits fifth in points.

Carson Macedo and the Jason Johnson Racing team joined Schuchart for Lincoln’s Steve Smith Tribute Race. They picked up a sixth-place finish to pocket a solid $6,519 payday. Macedo and Schuchart will both return to Pennsylvania at the end of the month for a trio of battles with the PA Posse at BAPS Motor Speedway (July 29) and Williams Grove Speedway (July 31-Aug. 1).

Garet Williamson and Fischer Motorsports opted to get another NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s (Aug. 12-15) tune-up by attending Knoxville Raceway’s weekly program. Williamson led laps before a podium finish.

The off-week track time wasn’t limited to drivers on the tour. Team owner Bill Rose got behind the wheel of a USAC Silver Crown car for Terre Haute Action Track’s Sumar Classic and finished an impressive sixth after starting 18th. Rose gets back to owner and crew chief duties for Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year presented by Five Star Bodies contender Kasey Jedrzejek this week.

Seth Bergman Takes Ralph Henson Memorial at Texarkana for 29th ASCS Triumph

Kristy Whatley

TEXARKANA, AR (July 11, 2026) — Fireworks sprouted the American Sprint Car Series visit to Texarkana 67 Speedway for the Ralph Henson Memorial, and it was Seth Bergman who shone brightest.

The Snohomish, WA driver became the first to score three Feature victories in the 2026 season, with a dogfight between his two championship adversaries through 30 laps at the 1/4-mile bullring Saturday night.

Brady Baker and Matt Covington set the front row, with Baker taking the lead on the opening circuit. On the second lap, Covington drove to the bottom in Turn 1 but slid up and made contact with Baker, resulting in race-ending damage to the No. 71 and making Covington the new leader.

On the restart, Covington used the cushion while Bergman and Sam Hafertepe Jr. followed in tow around the bottom lane. Bergman had the advantage over Covington, which propelled him to the lead. Hafertepe followed Bergman’s tracks around the bottom and got ahead of the No. 95 on Lap 4.

Bergman continued to use the bottom as Hafertepe shifted his line to the top side, but both drivers remained equal in distance until lap traffic arrived on Lap 10. Bergman moved to the cushion to avoid lapped cars in his line as Hafertepe closed within 0.5 seconds of the lead.

Throughout the run, the two drivers remained glued to the cushion until the final caution was flown on Lap 24, stacking the field for a six-lap dash to the twin checkered flags.

Bergman aced the restart as Hafertepe worked to protect his runner-up position. The Oklahoma Chillers No. 23 Triple X Chassis drove away to a 2.4-second gap, scoring his first win in the Ralph Henson Memorial and tying Shane Stewart for eighth on the all-time National Tour wins list.

“It was technical, but this place is one badass racetrack,” Bergman said. “We were just really good, and it’s the Ralph Henson Memorial, and I’m probably one of the only guys in the field that actually ran against Ralph. It’s a great family, and I’m honored to win this race in his honor.

“This car here lately, we’ve been hitting on some things, and I think it shows. We have a really good piece, and we’ve been struggling. I just couldn’t be happier with the feels that the car’s been giving me. I can act like a race car driver, get out there, make decisions, and win races.”

With Hafertepe finishing second and Covington third, the Sunnyvale, TX pilot retook the points lead by five markers. Rookie Cole Schroeder earned his first career top-five finish in the Series with a fourth-place finish, and Kyler Johnson worked up eight positions to round out the top five and earn the Hard Charger award.

Recap Notes:

Quick Time Award: Matt Covington (13.880 sec.)

Heat Race Winners: Brady Baker, Seth Bergman, Howard Moore

Honest Abe Roofing Dash Winner: Brady Baker

Last Chance Showdown Winner: Brogan Carder

Hard Charger Award: Kyler Johnson (+8)

Up Next: The American Sprint Car Series returns to Kansas with Dodge City Raceway Park hosting the Steve King Memorial on Saturday, July 25. Joining the National Tour at the event will be the ASCS Gunsmoke Region and Sooner Region.

Matt Covington Takes ASCS Points Lead, Secures 24th Career Victory at Batesville

matt skipper

LOCUST GROVE, AR (July 10, 2026) — Matt Covington is not going to let a chance at his first American Sprint Car Series title slip away.

The Glenpool, OK racer took his first National Tour win at Batesville Motor Speedway in a 25-lap Feature that highlighted major points implications at the top.

As Covington started the race from the inside of the second row, polesitter Sam Hafertepe Jr. took the lead over Brady Baker as Covington and Seth Bergman overtook Baker on Lap 2 to occupy the podium positions.

Through the first five laps, Hafertepe marched away from the two drivers by 1.8 seconds until lapped traffic came into his crosshairs.

With Hafertepe stuck in traffic, Covington and Bergman shredded the gap by 0.3 seconds each lap to catch him by Lap 10. Covington caught Hafertepe with momentum and reached for the inside of the No. 15H in Turn 3. Both drivers used every inch of racing room exiting Turn 4, but they made contact, sending Hafertepe into the wall and spinning across the frontstretch, prematurely ending the night as Covington took the lead.

On Lap 13, Bergman suffered a flat right-rear tire, which forced him into the pits and squandered his hopes of a third Series win in 2026. With Hafertepe and Bergman out of contention, Covington had to face Christopher Townsend and Whit Gastineau for the remaining 12 laps around the 3/8-mile oval.

Covington’s No. 95 Triple X Chassis flew away with the lead around the bottom lane while Townsend and Gastineau attempted different lines to gain an edge. Covington ran away to a 2.3-second gap by Lap 19, only to be gridlocked in lap traffic. Then, it was Townsend and Gastineau’s turn to chase down the leader, recing within one second of the back of Covington’s machine until the final caution waved on Lap 22.

In the remaining three laps, Covington scurried away from Townsend and Gastineau to lock up his 24th career Series win – tying 2015 champion Aaron Reutzel for 12th on the all-time wins list.

“My vantage point was that I thought I had room, and I thought I could stay off (Hafertepe),” Covington said. “That’s the last guy I want to run into on the racetrack. Sam, as fast as he is and as many races he wins, he’s the cleanest guy I know that’s been out here. I’m just real happy about tonight, other than making some contact. It looked like it tore Sam’s stuff up pretty good, so a bad night in that regard, but a good night to finish on top.”

Leaving the night at Batesville, Covington became the new Series points leader by two points over Hafertepe and 64 markers in front of Bergman.

Townsend finished second for a career high on the National Tour, and Gastineau cemented the Friday podium in his first visit to the facility. Baker finished fourth, and sophomore racer Ryder LaPlante made up the night’s top five finishers.

Recap Notes:

Quick Time Award: Sam Hafertepe Jr. (12.055 sec.)

Heat Race Winners: Ryder LaPlante, Matt Covington, Seth Bergman

Hard Charger Award: Whit Gastineau (+7)

Up Next: The American Sprint Car Series is headed southwest of “The Natural State” to Texarkana 67 Speedway for the Ralph Henson Memorial on Saturday, July 11.

Points-Free Mindset Driving Gastineau to ASCS Success

 Emily Schwanke
BATESVILLE, AR (July 9, 2026) — Some drivers claim they don’t think about points. Whit Gastineau isn’t lying.

And he’s using that mindset to have one of the best runs of his career with the American Sprint Car Series.

Going week to week, seeing if one weekend still brings him to the next, Gastineau isn’t racing for points; he’s racing for results. In doing so, the Moore, OK, native has found himself fourth in the Series standings with two top fives and eight top 10s in 13 races.

“I don't pay too much attention to it,” Gastineau said. “That’s paying off to have good finishes and everything. My boy Charlie actually told me we were in fourth, but it's good to know that because we've worked hard, we've been fast, and we did really good at Volusia. They just did show-up points, so I'd have more points if it wasn't for that.

“But it's nice that we're up there close and hopefully just keep on getting good, solid finishes and podiums. That's what it's all about. You're not going to win every night, but if you're right there, eventually the wins will start coming through.”

Keeping the full season calendar within reach, he’ll follow the National Tour to Arkansas for stops at Batesville Motor Speedway on Friday, July 10, and Texarkana 67 Speedway for the Ralph Henson Memorial on Saturday, July 11.

While the two tracks will be a first for the Statewide Service Center No. 2 Maxim Chassis, Gastineau will look to notes from similar tracks to try and find a setup he’s comfortable with.

“I’ve raced for 25 years, and it’s tough,” Gastineau said. “A lot of these tracks, especially the ones coming up that I’ve never been to, you can kind of compare them to different tracks, especially on the gearing. Like, Benton has a pretty good banking that I can look towards with Batesville, and I’ve never raced at Texarkana either. So, there’s quite a few new ones, but that’s part of it. So, if you can unload close on setup on gearing, you can try to figure it out fast.”

He'll enter the weekend with momentum on his side, having collected three straight top-10 finishes in the last three events, including two podiums – third at 81 Speedway and second at Belleville High Banks. The two-day weekend at Belleville produced his best showing of the year, with a charge from 12th to seventh on Friday and then a Heat Race win that led to his podium run on Saturday.

With 81 being a 3/8-mile track and Belleville being a 1/2 mile, his success on larger tracks is starting to become a pattern, going back to his first two Series wins coming at the 1/2-mile Salt City Speedway. It’s a stat he should be excited about with the Series heading to the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park on July 25, the 1/2-mile Viking Speedway on Aug. 1, and the famous 1/2-mile Knoxville Raceway for the Xtream powered by Mediacom 360 Knoxville Nationals pres. by Great Southern Bank, Aug. 6-8.

“We were really good at Belleville,” Gastineau said. “Really, the only thing that hurt us Friday and Saturday was that every now and then, the car wouldn’t take off like it should, and that really hurts on that type of track. It’s the difference in getting three positions and losing three positions.

“Luckily, we fixed it a little bit on Saturday, and it took off better in the Heat and Dash. Then in the Feature, it didn’t take off again. But we’re good at those big tracks, and it was good to have a good weekend because we had some tough ones with the engine problems before. We got that figured out, and we have a few Shark Racing Engines that are fresh. They always run good.”

While Gastineau and his team have had good results and have the potential for more up ahead, running a full schedule isn’t easy. When he says he’s not thinking about points, he’s not lying. There are other factors on his mind, but strong runs can continue to help those too.

“We’re still taking it week by week,” Gastineau said. “It’s getting a lot hotter, and we've got to find a little bit more help to get the truck and trailer up and down the road. That’s what we got to figure out right now. Other than that, we can do it. It’s tough on us because we all work full-time, so if we can figure that out, we’ll do it.”

Gastineau will follow the American Sprint Car Series into “The Natural State” for two nights with a stop at Batesville on Friday, July 10, and Texarkana on Saturday, July 11.

American Sprint Car Series Points Battles Intensify Ahead of Arkansas Doubleheader

Here are the top storylines to look for:

Razorback Heritage - The American Sprint Car Series owes much of its history to “The Natural State” by helping Emmett Hahn’s vision come to life at Little Rock, AR’s I-30 Speedway on May 15, 1993.

In the 35th season of ASCS racing, Arkansas will see the National Tour visit twice in 2026 with the Batesville and Texarkana doubleheader, then Riverside International Speedway is slated for racing with King of the Ditch II on August 22.

On Saturday, Texarkana will honor the life of Ralph Henson, a Little Rock native who raced motorcycles and Sprint Cars around the state until his passing in 2007. Originally held on the same weekend as the Short Track Nationals at I-30 Speedway beginning in 2008, the event was moved to Texarkana after I-30 closed in 2022 and has remained an ASCS staple event.

Sweeping Belleville - Sam Hafertepe Jr. silenced the questions about when his first American Sprint Car Series Feature win was going to arrive in 2026 with a dominating weekend in The Big One at Belleville High Banks.

The Sunnyvale, TX native had a perfect run on both Friday and Saturday by leading a combined 40 laps between the night’s Features to leave the month of June with a $14,000 deposit and an even score of 90 in career Series wins.

The pilot of the Hill’s Racing Team No. 15H extended the points lead to 52 over Matt Covington as he seeks a first win at Batesville with previous National Tour finishes of second and fifth. At Texarkana, he’s gunning for a third-straight National Tour win with victories the past two years.

Knocking Podiums - Matt Covington is looking for his second win of the season since he last parked in Victory Lane at Central Arizona Raceway.

That hasn’t stopped him from placing the Triple X Chassis No. 95 on the podium, finishing within the top three in four of the past five Features.

While the deficit to Hafertepe has widened, the Glenpool, OK driver looks to the Arkansas weekend as a chance to swing momentum in his direction. He’s never finished outside of the top-10 at Batesville with a career-high of third in 2024. Covington won at Texarkana in 2012 with the former ASCS Lone Star Region and has finished on the podium at the track in the last two National Tour visits.

Making Moves - The halfway mark of the 2026 American Sprint Car Series approaches as the full-time competitors seek to improve their place inside the championship’s top-10.

While Whit Gastineau finished seventh on Friday and a runner-up on Saturday at Belleville, Kyler Johnson’s finishes of 12th and ninth, respectively, moved the Moore, OK native ahead by 39 points for fourth place.

Between sixth and ninth place in the rundown stands a 26-point difference that includes Ryder LaPlante, Brogan Carder, Austyn Gossel, and Terry Easum. Easum has the best finish at Batesville of the four drivers with a sixth-place run from 2025, while Gossel has the highest result at Texarkana with an eighth in 2024.
