DEBUT WINNERS HIGHLIGHT SUPER SUNDAY FOR THE GT4 EUROPEAN SERIES AT CIRCUIT PAUL RICARD

New teams SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm and CRT-Sport score big on debut Schubert Motorsport and Razoon – more than racing share Pro-Am glory JSB Compétition does the double in Am+ Almost 40,000 fans experience the GT World season opener

Huge crowds, debut winners and two thrilling GT4 European Series races characterised the opening GT World event at Circuit Paul Ricard this weekend.

The twin hour-long GT4 European Series races headlined Sunday’s action, after a record 37,892 spectators flocked to Le Castellet to witness a capacity GT World Challenge Europe field race into the night on Saturday.

The fireworks didn’t just end with the GT3 race, with the 40-car GT4 Europe field putting on a stunning display on the closing day with two hard-fought races which featured debut victories for both new Silver teams and breakthrough successes in the classes.

SCHNITZELALM AND CRT-SPORT TAKE THE SPOTLIGHT

SR Motorsport by Schnitzelalm and CRT-Sport were the two newest teams to join the field coming into this season, yet both leave the opening event with winner’s trophies.

GT4 Germany stars Enrico Förderer and Cedric Fuchs took no time to adapt to life in GT4 Europe, scoring a controlled victory in Sunday’s opening race after a brilliant opening stint from Förderer, who jumped into the lead from second on the grid to hand a decisive lead to Fuchs in the second half.

Race 2 was undoubtedly the highlight though, with intense competition up and down the field and one of the most intriguing lead battles in recent memory. The leading pack of four cars – made up of Gabriele Piana (Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport BMW), Clément Seyler (Racing Spirit of Léman Aston Martin), Hudson Schwartz (CRT Supra) and Erik Evans (Academy Motorsport Mustang) – swapped places repeatedly with Piana having to pull off a stunning move on the brakes to hold the lead as the cars ran four-wide at one point.

A late safety car bunched the pack and set up a grandstand finish, with Lucas Cartelle taking over the CRT Supra from Schwartz and diving for the lead past Piana’s team-mate Thomas Rackl in a breathless finish.

Förderer and Fuchs hold the points lead at the end of it all, 10 ahead of both Ibañez and Alex Papadopulos (NM Racing Team) and Schwartz/Cartelle.

In the classes, Schubert Motorsport drivers Joakim Walde and Victor Bouveng finally scored their breakthrough Pro-Am win in their third season together, while Chris Salkeld made a winning debut alongside Daniel Drexel in the Razoon – more than racing BMW in Race 2. JSB Compétition was flawless all weekend, with Nicco Ferrarin and Julien Briché topping every session in the Am class.

FAN EXPERIENCE SUPERSIZED

Much of the weekend took place under stunning blue skies, which helped to draw a record crowd for the GT World season opener.

With over 150 GT cars in action across the two days with the GT4 European Series, GT3 Revival Series and Lamborghini Super Trofeo supporting the GT World Challenge, packed grandstands were a regular feature.

The fan zone attracted huge crowds across both days, with DJ Sibe soundtracking the GT3 action on Saturday night before it made for a popular destination to take in the GT4 contests on Sunday thanks to the multiple bars and food trucks on offer. With open paddocks allowing fans to get up-close to the cars and drivers, plus busy autograph sessions and a display of Lamborghini supercars celebrating 30 years of the Super Trofeo, Circuit Paul Ricard again proved why it is such a popular destination for the start of the GT World season.

The GT4 European Series is next in action at Monza across the weekend of May 29-31.

Saturday brought azure-blue skies and perfect temperatures, ensuring the biggest single-day crowd ever seen at this long-running event. The grandstands along the pit straight were packed as GT World Challenge powered by AWS began its headline six-hour race, which finished in spectacular fashion with Comtoyou Racing star Nicki Thiim snatching victory just 10 minutes from the chequered flag.

Drivers representing Aston Martin, Mercedes-AMG and McLaren sprayed the champagne on the new podium, while Porsche had reason to celebrate thanks to a pair of class wins. The race also marked the series debut of Lance Stroll, who fully embraced the GT World experience at Circuit Paul Ricard, while Max Verstappen was trackside on Saturday keeping a close eye on his team's progress. Without doubt, a fascinating season lies ahead.

This was just one aspect of what drew such a big crowd. Expanded for 2026, the Fan Village at the heart of the paddock was a resounding success, offering entertainment, food and drinks, merchandise stalls, and a giant screen for fans to follow the race. To set it off, a live performance from DJ Sibe and fireworks lighting up the skies over the track added to the sunset party atmosphere. Spectators also got up close with drivers and cars in the paddock, during an autograph session, and with a pit walk following Saturday's race.

There was even more to see thanks to a special Lamborghini display that ran throughout the weekend. Featuring exceptional cars from the Italian marque's storied history, it included the astonishing Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole, the stylish Miura SV, and several of the brand's modern supercars.

The headline endurance competition was accompanied by six action-packed sprint races from the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, GT4 European Series, and the new GT3 Revival Series, bringing the total number of brands competing at Circuit Paul Ricard to 13. This delivered a packed day of action on Sunday, with more than 10 hours of racing staged across the full weekend.

"What a way to start the season!" commented Stéphane Ratel, Founder and CEO of SRO Motorsports Group. "The crowds on-site this weekend were testament to what GT World is building. The continued involvement of 10 major manufacturers and the growing interest we have seen from world-class drivers such as Max Verstappen and Lance Stroll is further proof of the concept. Be it the racing on the track or what the public could experience around the venue, this really was the perfect way to start the season – and I firmly believe it’s just the beginning."

Italian manufacturer to supply full grid of new-for-2026 series

Season begins with two races at Circuit Paul Ricard on 11/12 April

The cars entered for the inaugural GT3 Revival Series round at Circuit Paul Ricard come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but they will all have something in common: the full field will compete using Pirelli tyres.

This marks the latest development in a longstanding partnership between the Italian manufacturer and SRO Motorsports Group, which will organise the new series in collaboration with Peter Auto. Since 2013, Pirelli has been the exclusive supplier to GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS, a role that has since expanded to encompass every SRO series around the world.

This has made the Italian brand synonymous with international GT racing. Whether at Spa, Shanghai, Sonoma or Sydney, the distinctive Pirelli logo is a constant presence, linking competitors and circuits at opposite ends of the globe.

As such it was natural that the new GT3 Revival Series – which represents the first eight years of GT3 competition from 2006 to 2013 – would rely on Pirelli rubber. These modern classics will run on the versatile P Zero DHG, the same product used in all SRO-run GT2, GT3 and GT4 championships.

Indeed, Pirelli will supply a vast variety of SRO events during the 2026 season, from regional sprint races to the marquee CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa. The Belgian enduro is the ultimate exemplar of Pirelli's expertise, with approximately 15,000 tyres supplied from its state-of-the-art fitting village within the paddock.

“Pirelli is the very best kind of partner,” said Stéphane Ratel, Founder and CEO of SRO Motorsports Group. “As well as a world-class product and fantastic customer service, they also offer invaluable commercial and technical support. Teams around the world benefit from their quality and consistency, and I am delighted that this will extend to the GT3 Revival Series.”

“We are delighted to extend our collaboration with SRO to this new series, which celebrates the recent history of GT racing – a discipline that has grown over time to become increasingly competitive and thrilling, thanks in no small part to the work carried out by the promoter,” said Matteo Braga, Circuit Activity Manager Pirelli. “The GT3 Revival Series races will provide an additional source of spectacle and yet another reason to enjoy fine weekends at the track.”

Following the opening round at Circuit Paul Ricard, the GT3 Revival Series will stage its next two meetings at Spa Classic (22–24 May) and Le Mans Classic (3–5 July). Events at the Nürburgring (29–30 August) and Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (3–4 October) – both alongside GT World Challenge Europe – will complete the inaugural season.

The tyres for the GT3 Revival Series are the same as those supplied to all other GT series: the P Zero DHG for dry conditions and the Cinturato WHB for wet conditions. The DHG, developed for GT2, GT3 and GT4 cars, ensures a wide working range, fast warm-up and reliable car balance over long distances. The Cinturato WHB features a stiffer tread pattern and innovative materials that improve footprint, grip, low-temperature warm-up, sensitivity to aquaplaning and the usable window during racing.
