USAC AWARDS BANQUET DECEMBER 3 IN
INDIANAPOLIS
The 2010 USAC Awards Banquet is scheduled for Friday night,
December 3,
at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in downtown Indianapolis, Ind.
Champions of USAC’s 2010 racing series will be honored during
the gala evening.
The affair will be held this year in conjunction with the
International Motorsports Industry Show (IMIS), which will be
held December 1-3 at the
Indiana Convention Center, located just one block south
of the banquet
facility.
In addition to the various series championship awards,
numerous other performance awards are part of the ceremonies as
well as special recognition awards.
USAC’s new Traxxas Off-Road Truck Championships will also be
featured at the banquet, which gets under way with a cocktail
hour at 6 pm and dinner to follow at 7.

RACES COULD SHAKE UP NDC STANDINGS;
COONS BACK IN 3RD AFTER “4-CROWN”
Three nights of racing at
Tri-City Speedway in
Pontoon Beach, Ill.
this week could shake up the 2010 USAC National Driver
championship standings, depending on performances by the
top-ranking drivers.
Little change took place at the top during last weekend’s
“4-Crown Nationals” tripleheader at the
Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, with
Bryan Clauson entering the weekend with a 27-point
cushion over Levi
Jones and exiting with a 29-point cushion. Clauson posted
a victory and two seconds while Jones had a win, a third and a
16th.
Jerry Coons Jr., who won the “4-Crown” Midget race, vaulted
back around
Tracy Hines in the standings, now eight ahead of Hines in
third place.
The USAC Mopar National Midget Series competes in full
point-paying events Thursday, Friday and
Saturday nights
in the “Gold Crown Midget Nationals” at Tri-City Speedway in
Pontoon Beach, Ill.
The 2010 USAC National Drivers Champion will receive a
$40,000 cash prize, while the “top-10” in the standings will
share in the year-end NDC points fund.

HICKORY RACE CONCLUDES EASTERN/CAROLINA FOCUS SERIES;
HUNTER WIRE-TO-WIRE IN SATURDAY’S DILLON FEATURE
The 2010 USAC Eastern and
Carolina Ford Focus Series will conclude October 23 at
Hickory (N.C.)
Motor Speedway and Scott Hunter of Mooresville, N.C. is
eyeing both titles after winning Saturday night’s 30-lapper at
Dillon (S.C.) Motor Speedway.
Hunter led all 30 laps to win Saturday’a Dillon main event
in his Brown & Miller Racing Solutions/Joe Gibbs Racing Oil
Beast. Justin Hommel finished second and was followed by Jarett
Andretti,
Jeremy Frankoski and Tyler Corriher.
Hunter’s 2010 USAC record at Hickory includes a pair of
feature wins, a second, a third and a fourth in five starts.

Dalton Armstrong of New Castle, Ind. is the 2010 USAC
Regional and USAC/WOMS Midget Champion after finishing second in
Saturday night’s
series finale at
Berlin Raceway in Marne, Mich.
Armstrong trailed Daniel Bedford to the
checkered flag
in the 25-lap race and outpointed Dillon Welch for both titles.
The Regional and WOMS series will combine for a special
“non-points” race October 16 in conjunction with the “Rollie
Beale 150” USAC Silver Crown race at the Toledo (Ohio) Speedway.
Bedford, of Brentwood, Calif., took the 25-lap
Berlin feature in his F & F Mechanical/Esslinger Beast,
leading the final five laps after getting the lead from Welch,
who eventually ended up 11th in the finishing order. Armstrong
was second, followed by Chris Phillips, Grant Galloway and Jim
Anderson.

360 SPRINTS AT
TULARE’S THUNDERBOWL SATURDAY
Saturday’s night’s “Sprinting for the Cure” racing program
at the Tulare (Calif.)
Thunderbowl Raceway benefits breast cancer research and
concludes the 2010 series.
Drivers Craig Stidham and Davey Pombo will battle for the
series championship Saturday, then the series will compete at
Giant Speedway in Hanford, Calif. October 16 in a special
“non-points” event.
Stidham
has a 26-point lead over Pombo entering Saturday’s race. A total
of 74 points are available, so Saturday’s feature performance is
pivotal.
Stidham won back-to-back feature events at Tulare in April
but his car was disqualified after finishing fourth there in
May. He also was second to Dean Alexander in a March race at
Tulare. Pombo has had a second, fourth and eighth in three
Tulare starts this season.
Bud Kaeding won the last Tulare 360 Sprint race, in May, and
BK currently leads the USAC Silver Crown standings.

Ventura, Calif.’s
Cory Kruseman grabbed another feature event at his “home”
track Saturday night, winning the 30-lap AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint
car feature at Ventura (Calif.) Raceway. Kruseman took the lead
from Josh Ford on lap four and led the rest of the way in his
Lucas Oil/Agromin Viper/Mopar. Tony Jones, Spencer, Brandon
Thomson and Ford rounded out the top five at the
checkered flag.
Matt Mitchell was the fastest qualifier.
Kruseman’s victory finds him third in the latest series
standings, 43 behind Sheridan.

Defending “Gold Crown Midget Nationals” champion Jerry Coons
Jr. of Tucson, Ariz. is looking forward to this week’s event at
Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Ill. after winning
Saturday night’s “4-Crown Nationals” feature at the
Eldora Speedway
in Rossburg, Ohio.
The Eldora win was Coons’ first in the 2010 USAC Mopar
National Midget Series but gave car owner Wilke-Pak Racing an
all-time record 135th USAC National feature win.
Coons won the “Gold Crown Midget Nationals” title in 2008
and rain forced cancellation of last year’s event at the
Tri-City oval. Thursday and Friday night programs conclude with
25-lap features and a 50-lap main event concludes Saturday
night’s finals. The event is co-sanctioned by the O’Reilly Powri
Midget Series.
Coons led all 25 laps of the “4-Crown Nationals” feature in
his Toyota/Speedway Motors Spike/Toyota. He held off fast
qualifier
Bryan Clauson for the win. Brad Kuhn took third ahead of
Tracy Hines and
Bobby East.
Shane Hmiel escaped injury in a flip on lap eight of the
race.

AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car point leader
Levi Jones of Olney, Ill. will take a 91-point lead over
Bryan Clauson into the November 4-6 “Budweiser Oval
Nationals” at the Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway in search of a
record-tying fourth series championship. A title would tie him
with Steve Butler, who also won four championships.
Jones gave car owner and track owner Tony Stewart a “4-Crown
Nationals” feature victory in Saturday night’s 30-lap feature
event at the
Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. Jones led all 30 laps
in his STP/Bass Pro Shops Maxim/Kistler Chevy to beat Bryan
Clauson, Damion Gardner, fast qualifier Jerry Coons Jr. and Bud
Kaeding.
Jones also enjoys a healthy lead in the 2010 USAC AMSOIL
National Sprint Car Dirt-track standings after his Eldora
triumph.

Bud Kaeding’s quest for a record fourth USAC Silver Crown
Championship
continues October 9 in the “Sumar Classic 100” at the
Terre Haute
(Ind.) Action Track. Kaeding emerged from last Saturday’s
“4-Crown Nationals” at the
Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio with a 41-point lead
over Levi Jones
in the standings. Kaeding finished sixth in the 50-lapper.
USAC Silver Crown Rookie
Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, Ind. led all 50 laps to
give car owner and Eldora Speedway
owner Tony Stewart a victory at Edlora. Trailing
Clauson’s Bass Pro Shops/Armor All Beast/Kistler Chevy entered
by Stewart and Curb-Agajanian Racing were
Dave Darland, fast qualifier Levi Jones,
Shane Hmiel and Todd Kane.
Seven drivers are separated by just 42 points in the battle
for second in the new Silver Crown standings with 66 points
